Getting started - Week 1, day 1

This year I did something that I do not normally do.  I made a couple of resolutions, or as I like to term them "goals".  Calling them resolutions just conjures up images of people smirking at me and predicting how long it will be until I break it.  It is almost like folks bet against you.  So I choose to call them what they are and avoid the drama.

The goals for this year are these:

1) Eat fish at least twice a week.  Not batter dipped and fried, not filet-o-fish from McDonald's, or their ilk, but real fish.  Healthy fish prepared with the least amount of intervention, and most of their nutrients intact.  (This should be pretty easy because I really like fish)

2) Try something new every week.  From any category, be it culinary, cultural, fitness, taking a class, trying a new sport or hobby...  whatever, as long as it is new to us.

3)  Make healthier choices across the board

It sounds simple enough, right?  Well, we will see how it goes.  I know that I can do these things, I am even looking forward to doing them, but it is a matter of getting into the daily Habit of doing them.  Most of our bad habits are just that.  Habits.  Poor choices that we repeated often enough and long enough that they became ingrained.  Now the challenge is to see if we can do the same with the Good choices.  I have faith in myself, I know that I can make better choices and I am going to journal it as I go so that I have some accountability, and a (relatively) honest record.

Getting started today was easy.  I had about 4 ounces of lightly pan seared Ahi with my salad for lunch.  Delish.

Bonus points ~ The Ahi was left over from dinner out this weekend, and the salad was left over from dinner last night.  So I saved money on both sides.  I did not waste left-overs that had already been paid for, and I did not have the need to buy something for lunch.  :c)

In the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that I also have had half a brownie today and the other half is going to make a fitting mid-afternoon snack.

:c/  Oh well, I am a work in progress.
